Did you feel the ground shake? Could you sense the anticipation of today’s launch? Suddenly I feel like there is so much to say and so little time. I realize there is no time pressure, but our journey has turned a significant page. I happened to write an article today for our church’s online newsletter about the advent season. I began by asking Siri what the word advent actually means. If you’ve never asked Siri for the definition of advent, let me tell you her answer:
Arrival that has been awaited (especially of something momentous)
Now please don’t misread anything I am about to write and get yourself all tied up in knots. I know the Advent season we are about to enter is about preparing our hearts for the Christ child, the Messiah, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. The “something momentous” that was long awaited and prophesied for millennia was the birth of Jesus. And my prayer is this Christmas He will be more real and more authentic for everyone on #TeamJustus. My one true Christmas wish is that this journey we’ve been on for the past 117 days will have helped someone out there begin a relationship with the one whose birthday we celebrate. That would truly be a Merry Christmas.
With that said, I couldn’t read that definition of advent without thinking about Justus. We’ve been anticipating our own momentous occasion; the discharge from Randall and the arrival at home of our little ninja warrior! As you can see by the pictures… all of that happened today. Everything went smoothly. Grammy and Aunty spent the morning preparing the house for the homecoming. Mom and dad spent the morning, along with a friend, packing up the room for transport. Justus sensed something was going on, but didn’t seem shaken by any of it. No surprise since he’s handled everything that has been thrown at him so far.
As I wrap up this report, is it Day Last or Day Beginning? It’s a little like the whole glass half empty – glass half full, only both of these options are positive. Day last represents the closing of a long chapter that lasted 117 days. A chapter we will not soon forget. A chapter fraught with danger, suspense, tears, joy, anger, prayer, love and growth; remember GRACE + TRUTH + TIME = GROWTH! A chapter that will forever have a significant place setting in our hearts. A chapter we would never willingly choose to repeat. A chapter that introduced us to you and for that we will forever be grateful.
Of course Day Beginning speaks to Lamentations 3:22-23… His mercies are new every morning. Day Beginning fills my mind with pictures, hundreds of pictures, of beautiful sunrises! Day Beginning reminds us that God is the God of hope and the God of a new day. My prayer is that Day Beginning will remind all of #TeamJustus that God is for us and if God be for us who can be against us.
This Thursday is Thanksgiving, which leads right into the Christmas season. It is the most joyous time of the year… for some. For others, these will be some of the most painful days of the year. If that is you, then our hearts go out to you even as we pray for your hurt, whether it be from loss or finances or health. I pray that Justus’ journey reminds you – THE MOON IS ROUND! And wouldn’t you know it, just by “coincidence” there happened to be a full moon out tonight on Day Beginning. Obviously, I’ve told you before, I don’t believe in coincidence, but I do believe in Providence. If you are hurting and fighting to “keep the faith”, I hope you will let this full moon be a word from the Lord. A reminder; God is still able and God is still good, even when we don’t understand what is going on.
Again, thank-you for your prayers today. Please keep praying as they make this full transition. If you didn’t feel the ground shake, perhaps you heard our collective cheer! In any case, please feel this heartfelt prayer of blessing over you this night. May the God of all comfort be real in your heart tonight. May you know, that you know, that you know – the moon is round. And may you rest in His arms tonight even as Justus rests in his bed. And now may the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace ~ Numbers 6:24-27.
#TeamJustus… we love you!
