I’m hoping you haven’t figured out the point of the picture before reading this opening paragraph. Some of you might take issue with what my children have done and that’s ok… everyone must follow their convictions. Yes I know what Leviticus 19:28 says. I’m not here to argue the theology of tattoos, but I will tell you I’ve spent a good amount of time considering the permission/wisdom of what many refer to as body art. If your convictions prevent you from getting a tattoo I hope you will give grace and room for the possibility that others might have the freedom to do so. By now if you didn’t immediately notice you’ve gone back to check the picture again. What you will find is my kids have decided to all get the numbers XIV:XIV tattooed on their head right where Justus’ scar begins.
You might remember we first used those numbers on the#TeamJustus wristbands.
Exodus 14:14 ~ The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still.
You might be asking then why not put the whole address for the verse, at least then people might look up a verse and get some redeeming value out of the tattoo. Here’s what is so fun about 14:14. After we picked Exodus 14:14 we looked up other 14:14 references. Here’s what we found…
Numbers 14:14 ~ And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, LORD, are with these people and that you, LORD, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
2 Samuel 14:14 ~ We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast.
Matthew 14:14 ~ When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
John 14:14 ~ You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Isn’t that so great? So for our family 14:14 or XIV:XIV is a reminder that God is able and God is good. It instantly recalls for us the moon is round! I’m not suggesting that any of you should feel the same as our family when it comes to tattoos, but I hope you get a little sense of why my kids chose to forever carry around this reminder of #TeamJustus and our journey.
As far as our little warrior he continues to make progress. He is finally seems to be fully over the effects of the actual surgery. He made it through yesterday without any throwing up episodes. In what we consider a landmark moment, for the first time both Alyse and Jason slept in their bed all night while Justus slept in his. He only got up once coughing to clear his throat for about an hour but then went back to sleep. He seems to be sleeping really well when he sleeps now, so definite progress is being made.
I apologize; I was traveling all night last night and then was in meetings all day today. I haven’t had a chance to catch up on all the prayer requests coming in. #TeamJustus please be diligent in praying for the needs that are coming in. I promise God desires us to be in prayer and for these families your prayers are part of what upholds them in their darkest hours. Regardless of where you land on tattoos, maybe write the numbers XIV:XIV on a piece of paper and put it on your refrigerator. That might encourage you to look up those verses this week. When you’re praying how cool to remember John 14:14…You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it. What are you waiting for… ask!
