Day 98-46 Bless the Lord Oh My Soul

Fourteen weeks today! I love numbers and tend to notice when they are significant. Of course 14 has been significant on this journey as you heard on day 95-43. You would have no reason to know this, but 14 also became a significant number in our family because of athletics. You’re probably thinking that must have been my number when I played and now my kids all want to wear their old man’s number. If you thought that, you’d be wrong! NO! Instead they decided it would be cool to have the same number as their famous uncle, Jack Thompson… 14! Don’t get me wrong… I’M NOT BITTER! Just kidding, in fairness, my number in college was 66. Have you ever heard of a quarterback with the number 66? But seriously, our family became inundated with the number 14! Thanks a lot Jack!

So, when Exodus 14:14 became our theme verse and then the whole XIV:XIV, it just seemed to have a little more meaning because of how much we’ve followed the number 14 over the years. Which brings me back to where I started… we finish the 14th week in the hospital today! The update on Justus is to please continue praying for his mouth. They are really working on relaxing his jaw. They’ve told us it is the last thing to come around. He’s still walking around a bunch. Thursdays are music days so when he was in the room with the music they couldn’t get him to do anything else but focus on the music. Finally they had to take him out of the room to get him to work on his walking.

Of course, I love that, because I know that’s the real Justus. Before the illness, he was so musically inclined. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a four-year-old help you get in key when you’re singing a song. On the one hand its super embarrassing, on the other hand it’s pretty darn impressive! He just had a natural gifting for music. So the fact that music is drawing him is just further indication that it’s Justus coming back; literally we’re back to chasing Justus!

Again, we don’t know for sure what the rest of this journey will look like – we trust the providence of God. But, we certainly continue to believe he will be fully restored. We pray for God to complete the miracle in Justus’ life. We know he’ll walk out of the hospital. Now I’m hoping he’ll sing Christmas carols with us again!

One of his favorite songs was “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” Here’s how the song starts:

Bless the Lord oh my soul
Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I’ll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up
It’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass
And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
When the evening comes

The sun comes up… a reminder that His mercies are new every morning. Oh God, make it so… when the evening comes and the moon is round… Let Justus be singing! “Bless the Lord oh my soul… I’ll worship Your Holy name.”

#TeamJustus… Join me… “Sing like never before, Oh my soul, I’ll worship Your Holy name!”
